The wonderful green back-up area and the mountain trails in the near Taurusmountains

THE HISTORY OF KEMER (Idyros)
Kemer is a nice city center which has been established along the shores
of the West Toros Mauntain foot 49 km west from Antalya. Kemer has 3 towns
and 6 villages. According to 1990 census it has a 52 km length seashore, having
9740 inhabitants.
Kemer has a unique beauty within meeting the sea, the forest and the mauntains,
with a colour harmony. There are many small and large inlets along the seaside
with the combination of colours from the sea, forests and mountains this forms
a very nice looking views.
The researchers of Kemer had discovered that this place was an old Lykya city.
But according to informations that have been taken from the native people,
Kemer was originally named as " Eski Köy" ( old city ) in 1910.
Formed as a lake and a marshy place by the torrents which had come from the
mountains ( Mount of Kizilcik). Afterwards in 1916-1917 these people who have
been living here built a wall whose length was approximately 23 km at the
foot of the mountains to protect the village from the torrents. Then the people
who have immigrated to live here compared this wall with an arch (Kemer),
for this reason the city`s name has been remembered as " Kemer".
Moreover, as the tales that belong to the same ages, an epidemic disease which
was called "ispanyol" has been a reason for the many people dying
who had lived here.
Bur by immigration of the people who have come from abroad and especially
by the yörüks who came from the mountains, the village has reached today`s
from again.
